Xola Pricing: What It Actually Costs

If you've looked into Xola's pricing, you may have noticed there isn't actually a price on their pricing page — just a credit card processing rate. It says there's no subscription and no added OTA fee, and asks you to get in touch for the rest. However, the details are in Xola's help center, and there's more to it than a single percentage.
This post breaks down each fee category associated with Xola and explains why the rate isn't the same for every operator, so you can see which costs would apply to your operation. If you're comparing options more broadly, our roundup of Xola alternatives covers the other platforms worth a look.
First, Why There's More Than One Rate
Xola has four fee structures, which it calls Flex plans. There are two rates, 6% on Flex Standard and 3% on Flex Level, and each one comes in a version where the guest pays the fee and a version where you absorb it.
Xola says each structure has eligibility requirements, and you check with Xola to see which ones are open to your account. So two operators on Xola can be paying different amounts on similar bookings.
The Online Booking Fee
This is the fee on bookings paid by card through your website checkout. It's 6% on Flex Standard and 3% on Flex Level.
On the guest-pays versions, the fee shows up as its own line at checkout and on the guest's receipt, which means they're the ones paying it, not you. On the company-pays versions, your guests only see the price you set, and the fee comes out of your payout instead.
How that affects your business depends on your customer base and your price points. A 6% checkout fee on a $40 bike rental lands differently than on a $400 private boat tour. If you'd rather your guests not see it at the moment they're about to book, the company-pays versions let you build it into your prices instead.
The In-Person and Offline Booking Fee
On Flex Standard, bookings paid in person carry no fee at all, whether that's by credit card, cash, check or anything else.
On Flex Level, it depends on who pays. If you absorb the fee, you pay 3% on every card payment, whether it's taken online or in person, and cash and check payments carry no fee. If the guest pays, the 3% is added to every booking whatever the payment method, cash and checks included. A guest who calls to book or walks up to the counter still sees the fee, and it can't be removed when you enter the booking in the back office.
A lot of operators take a significant share of their bookings over the phone or in person, especially for groups and private experiences. If you're in that category, this is the fee that matters most. Our post on booking software fees covers how other platforms handle offline bookings.
What Xola Doesn't Charge For
Xola doesn't charge a monthly subscription on any of its plans, so a slow month doesn't cost you anything in fixed fees. It also says it doesn't add its own fee on OTA bookings. You just pay the OTA's commission.
Plenty of operators are seasonal, and some platforms charge on OTA bookings on top of the commission. The only fee Xola charges is the percentage on the bookings it applies to.
The Full Picture
Here's a summary of Xola's fees on each plan side by side:
| Flex Standard | Flex Level | |
|---|---|---|
| Online card payments | 6% | 3% |
| In-person card payments | None | 3% |
| Cash, check and other offline payments | None | 3% if the guest pays, none if you absorb it |
| Who pays | Customer or operator, depending on the account | |
| Monthly subscription | None | |
| OTA fee | None beyond the OTA's commission | |
Which plan and which version you'd be on depends on meeting Xola's eligibility requirements. If you're already talking to them, that's the first thing to ask.
How to Evaluate This for Your Business
Xola's pricing has a few more moving parts, but what it costs you comes down to three things: which plan you'd be on, whether the fee gets passed to your guests, and how your guests pay. Start by working out how much of your revenue comes in online, how much is paid by card in person, and how much comes in as cash or checks.
For comparison, BookingTerminal doesn't charge a subscription or a setup fee. Online bookings carry a 5% convenience fee that the guest pays at checkout, so the operator pays nothing on them. Bookings you enter and take payment for in the dashboard carry no fee, and there's no extra charge on OTA bookings. If you've already decided a move makes sense, here's what switching actually looks like.
The fee is only part of the decision, though. The rest is what you get for it: whether the software fits the way you run your business, how quickly your staff pick it up, and who's there to help when something changes.
